Choose a simple story and sketch out five essential images that will tell it.
For some estrange reason I decided to sketch Pinocchio and I only realised too late that it was going to be very difficult (if not impossible) to tell the full story in just five frames... so I decided to tell my favourite bit instead.
In my opinion there is room for improvement in terms of creating the scenes (the elements would give an idea of where the frame is taking place, but a richer background would have helped)... and I wonder if it would have been possible to tell the full story.
I would like to read what do you think, please comment.
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteGreat to have found an other DFP student! I can imagine that it's hard to tell a story like Pinochio's in just 5 frames, so I understand your decision to just take one part from it. To me the story is very clear and the division of the frames seem obvious. There are two things that I'd like to comment on:
* I miss the cat in the third frame. He seems to play the role of the constant observer and I think it would be nice for him to watch the scene when Pinochio is made alive, or sleep on the the bed of the carpenter as well.
* In the frame when the carpenter (what's his name again!) is sawing a piece of wood, I think it would have been more informative to show him working in a later stage of building Pinochio. So with a few body parts ready etc, so that it's totally clear that he's making a wooden doll and not just sawing wood.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Hi Leonie,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found me, many thanks for your comments. I agree that the cat could be included in more frames as a spectator, very interesting point... I was just adding detail to the sketches not giving it much importance, but I think you are right.
I'll be very grateful if you send me your blog so we can share experiences!
Best wishes,
M
Hi Maria
ReplyDeleteI like your artwork here!
I echo the second comment made by Leonie. Although by frame 3 I was able to guess fromyour work that that this was Pinochio, I think it would have been more effective to have seen a semi-carved piece of wood.
Cheers
